I've lost track of how many times I've seen the Dixie Chicks in concert. Really. I know for sure that I saw them kick off their 2003 tour in Greenville, SC, while eight months pregnant with my son. Before and after that, it gets fuzzy. More than three, but less than 10? I think?

What I can say with certainty is that since they were bullied out of the music scene in the mid 2000s, I've been desperate for them to come back. And, finally, this year, they did. The Chicks are touring for the first time in more than 10 years, and I'll be at their Charlotte show (with my little 10-year-old Chick in tow). We'll be singing along and basking in the twangy goodness of their #girlboss tunes.

Not Ready To Make Nice, Dixie ChicksReleased in 2006, this song is as relevant today as it was back then(and even a bit creepy in its ability to foreshadow current events).Politics aside, it's an unrepentant anthem of female empowerment.

Just Because I'm A Woman, Dolly PartonI have to admit, I'm a fairly recent addition to the church of Dolly. But after joining one of my BFFs on a trip to Dollywood, I am in awe of her general badassery. Dolly is an incredibly prolific songwriter and endlessly philanthropic. She's simply amazing. Not to mention that this song is from 1968.
