Play List, Part 1
Sometimes, I need music to motivate me, or give voice to the things I wish I could say without repercussion. Posting a passive aggressive YouTube link to a song on social media? Sure. It's better than running your mouth or acting out. Or at least that's what I tell myself.
As we come up on another anniversary of the founding of RSC, here's a partial list of songs that fueled that transition and still provide inspiration to this day.
What You Waiting For, Gwen Stefani: 2009. Motorola Razr and a swift audio kick in the #girlboss ass.
The Fear, Lily Allen: Over think much? Need external validation? Let Lily mock you while singing.
Hate on Me, Jill Scott: So, so brill. Preach Matt Bellassai, preach.
I can't believe we still let musicians make music after Jill Scott released "Hate On Me," irrefutably the greatest work of music in history

Pot Kettle Black, Tilly & The Wall: I really wanted to love the Drew Barrymore roller derby movie. I didn't. But I did discover this song which is satisfyingly bitchy and also a great song for running.
On To The Next One, Jay-Z: B&W, fashion-y perfection. It's not personal bebe. It's business.

Shove it, Santigold: "We think you're a joke, shove your hope where it don't shine." Yaaaaas.
Konichiwa Bitches, Robyn: "I'm gonna kick ass all the way to Hong Kong."
